SPECIAL International Women’s Day

IRIS invites
women to be part of a project that involves art making, writing, mixed media
and photography, including a performance
piece in honour of this auspicious anniversary. Titled SECRETS AND LIES, WISHES AND DREAMSIRIS invites women to buy or sell specially prepared scripts
relating to any of the above. One loonie will either purchase or sell a
treasure from a custom equipped vending machine. Sounds complicated? Come and
check it out!

events,
IRIS is COLLECTING ·
An object of any kind, invested with
personal or symbolic meaning. The
objects contribute towards an installation, which becomes part of a larger
display.

On-site photographic documentation

Hand or foot prints of (willing)
women
·
Writings by women, onsite in the IRIS writing tent, in
hard copy, or by subsequent email, in response to the following: A Journal Project: ME at 8 years, at 20 years, and so on.In your lifetime what changes have you seen for yourself or women in general? Can you tell a story about a woman who has made an impact on your life?
While IWD is
actually March 8, IRIS is celebrating all month with artworks by
members in the Whitby Central Library exhibition space. Paintings, wall pieces
and photography, along with archival information on the IRIS Group will be
displayed from March 1, 3 pm to March
31, 11 a.m.
In addition, a sample of the objects that have been collected
and recorded from women over nine previous International Women’s Day events will
be on view.
