SPECIAL International Women’s Day Celebration
SATURDAY MARCH 5
11 a.m. to  4 p.m.
Central Branch, Whitby Public Library
 405 Dundas Street West
(click for images)
IRIS invites women to be part of a project that involves art making, writing, mixed media and photography, including  a performance piece in honour of this auspicious anniversary. Titled SECRETS AND LIES, WISHES AND DREAMS IRIS invites women to  buy or sell specially prepared scripts relating to any of the above. One loonie will either purchase or sell a treasure from a custom equipped vending machine. Sounds complicated? Come and check it out!

AND, as in past events,

IRIS is COLLECTING
  ·        An object of any kind, invested with personal or symbolic meaning.  The objects contribute towards an installation, which becomes part of a larger display.
·        On-site photographic documentation
·        Hand or foot prints of (willing) women
·        Writings by women, onsite in the IRIS writing tent, in hard copy, or by subsequent email, in response to the following:
A Journal Project: ME at 8 years, at 20 years, and so on.In your lifetime what changes have you seen for yourself or women in general?
Can you tell a story about a woman who has made an impact on your life?

While IWD is actually March 8, IRIS is celebrating all month with artworks by members in the Whitby Central Library exhibition space. Paintings, wall pieces and photography, along with archival information on the IRIS Group will be displayed from March 1, 3 pm to March 31, 11 a.m.

In addition, a sample of the objects that have been collected and recorded from women over nine previous International Women’s Day events will be on view.
