How IRIS got its name
In early 1996 at the invitation of BAWAA, a collective
of women artists in the Hamilton Bay area, I made a
series of studio visits. At the home of Anne Milne I met
her daughter Iris, and took her picture. Realizing that
we needed this kind of group in my community, I
subsequently went back home and started one, naming it
IRIS. There was already a feminist group in Clarington
called FOCUS, so between this little girl as a signifier
of the future and our group becoming an offshoot of
FOCUS, we were born. M.Rodgers
